Technology has been a major part of our H2O Challenge.
Technology is not this teacher's greatest skill, but thankfully she isn't afraid to dive in and try something new. Luckily... when she can't figure something out, she says something like, "Okay, kids... let's figure this out."
The children race with each other to find out who can figure out the technology related problem first.
"I THINK I'VE GOT IT!" one shouts.
"HOW'D YA DO IT?" kids call out.
"I DID IT THIS WAY!" ..and the class races to learn that piece of the puzzle.
"I KNOW WHAT TO DO AFTER THAT !!"
"HOW'D YA DO IT?" multiple voices call out... noses close to their computer screens, fingers frantically flying over the keys.
"I DID IT THIS WAY!" . ..and the class races to learn another piece of the problem.
"I DON'T GET IT!"
"LET ME SHOW YOU HOW..."
...etc.
It's never been long before the kids are helping their clueless teacher out.
I love my students. :-)

NEXT WE DECIDED TO MAKE A RESOURCE OF DROUGHT TOLERANT PLANTS THAT WOULD DO WELL IN MENLO PARK.
The teacher learned what Google Classroom was, and we all learned to work together on a Google Spreadsheet to look up 100 plants to reference according to their Botanical Name, Bloom Time, Sun or Shade, Hight & Width, and finally a Picture of the plant. Find our finished product here.

We all learned how to use Google Drawing (love at first bite!) to create our own Political Cartoons, and later to design our personal yards (or community property) with xeriscape planning suggestions. |
